Oil on Canvas
Signed 'Ray Simboli' (lower left
corner) Inv 1029
The center figure is Raymond Simboli's son, Donald, who later became a
football player for Salem College
and an architect in the city of Pittsburgh. A subsequent portrait of
Donald as a teenager shows him with
his ice skates (inv. 1077) Athleticism played a large part in the
Simboli family; Ray was a lightweight
boxer, Ray Jr. a long distance runner for the Carnegie Institute of
Technology (now the Carnegie-Mellon
University), and Beverlee studied dance, ballet and acrobatics from
the age of 2. Simboli painted a portrait
of Beverlee as a teenager doing ballet in 1949.
